Arrival Time of Earth-directed CME Updated

## NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Space Weather Center ( SWC )
## Message Type: Space Weather Alert
##
## Message Issue Date: 2012-04-25T19:05:00Z
## Message ID: 20120425-AL-001

## Alert Summary:

Update on CME with the activity ID 2012-04-23T18:09:00-CME-001 (see alert 20120423-AL-001). Based on revised heliospheric modeling carried out at NASA GSFC Space Weather Center, it is estimated that the CME may impact the Earth earlier than predicted previously. Simulations indicate that the leading edge of the CME will reach the Earth at the revised arrival time of 2012-04-26T12:13Z (plus minus 7 hours). The roughly estimated expected range of the Kp index is 3-5 (minor).

Updated type C CME parameters are :

Start time of the event: 2012-04-23T18:09Z.

Estimated speed: ~800 km/s.

Estimated opening half-angle: 23 deg.

Geomagnetic Storm Today

## NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Space Weather Center ( SWC )
## Message Type: Space Weather Alert
##
## Message Issue Date: 2012-04-24T04:10:00Z
## Message ID: 20120424-AL-001

## Alert Summary:

Ongoing space weather storm in the Earth's magnetosphere. Geomagnetic Kp index has reached level 6 (moderate) starting at 2012-04-24T00:00Z.
The storm is caused by arrival of the CME with ID 2012-04-19T15:39:00-CME-001 (see alert 20120420-AL-001). The arrival of IP shock due to the CME arrival was observed by ACE at 2012-04-23T02:27Z.
Spacecraft at GEO, MEO, polar and other orbits passing through or in the vicinity of the Earth's ring current and auroral regions can be impacted.
